With Rogers Park residents on high alert after two recent shootings, which police say were both carried out with the same gun, an informational meeting will be held tonight at the Loyola Park Fieldhouse.
Ald. Joe Moore (49th) announced the meeting in a social media post, saying it will be hosted by the Chicago Police Department.
“They will bring you up to date on the progress of the investigation and address your questions and concerns,” Moore said. “I will be in attendance.”
The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium, at 1230 W. Greenleaf.
The homicides happened Sunday and Monday, both carried out by a masked gunman with – according to ballistics test results from both incidents – the same gun, Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said Tuesday.
Johnson, speaking at a press conference in Rogers Park attended by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, said neither shooting appears to be gang-related and robbery does not appear to be the motive.
“At this point, there is nothing that leads us to believe this individuals are connected in anyway. There’s nothing that points to these two men knowing each other,” Johnson said.
Douglass Watts, 73, was shot and killed September 30, at approximately 10 a.m., in the 1400 block of West Sherwin Avenue. Monday, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Eliyahu Moscowitz, 24, was shot and killed on the bike path of Loyola Park, located on the 1100 block of West Lunt Avenue. Both men were walking alone when the crimes occurred, police said.
