Ald. Joe Moore (49th) shared details of the incident Tuesday morning, on his website.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday, three men sitting in a red SUV on Custer Street in Evanston, one-half block north of Howard, were struck by bullets fired from a vehicle that stopped alongside them, Moore said.  The victims then drove their SUV across Howard and struck a concrete planter box on Damen just south of Howard, he said.

Emergency crews arrived quickly at the scene and all three passengers in the red SUV were taken to St. Francis Hospital. One of the passengers was treated and released. Two other passengers remain hospitalized. One is listed in critical, but stable, condition. The other passenger is listed in serious condition, Moore said.

An Evanston street gang claimed credit on social media for the shooting. All three victims allegedly are members of a Chicago street gang, he said.
