Mayor Lightfoot and Governor Pritzker issued disaster proclamations for the shoreline in Chicago on Monday.

Officially, Lightfoot sent a letter to Pritzker requesting a state proclamation that would authorize the Illinois Emergency Management Agency “to coordinate state resources to assist in response and recovery as well as request federal resources and assistance,” according to a news release.

49th Ward Ald. Maria Hadden hailed the move, saying her office had been pushing for the move since May.

“A special thank you to our partners at the Office of Emergency Management and Communications for coordinating all of our departments and agencies to make this possible,” Hadden said in a note to residents.

Hadden said that inspectors from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will “verify the numbers we’ve shared with them on damage,” then hopefully release funding for further repair work.
