When most people think of chalk art, they think of child-drawn stick figures. But Chalk Howard Street, this weekend’s art festival in Rogers Park, will show a whole new side to the popular medium.
Chalk Howard Street is a family friendly art festival taking place Saturday, July 20 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.. Howard will be closed off from Paulina to Ashland. It will showcase interactive 2D and 3D chalk art from a“professional chalk artist line up, as well as amateurs and kids,” according to a news release about the event.
“This is something that, as far as we know, has never been done in the city of Chicago, said Sandi Price, Executive Director of the Rogers Park Business Alliance, which is hosting the event. “It’s something that’ll bring a lot of creativity and highlight artists.”
Price said attendees should look forward to the 3D art being created live at the festival.
Also featured will be local restaurants such as Bando Senegalese, Salerno’s Pizzeria, and Sol Cafe, giving participants an opportunity to try food from all over the globe.
The festival will close off with a live performance from singer songwriter Phil Angotti beginning at 7 p.m.
