A 25-year-old West Humbolt Park man has been extradited from a prison in Kentucky to face first degree murder charges in two 2015 Rogers Park slayings.
Harvey Pitts is charged with killing Albert Turnage and Jontaye Walker, who were both 23 when they were shot to death.
Turnage was killed in an alley near the 7100 block of N. Clark on Feb. 25, 2015. Walker was killed on Thanksgiving Day that year in the 2200 block of W. Thome.
Cook County prosecutors said Pitts and another man, both allegedly members of a street gang, went looking for a rival gang member to shoot early in the morning of Feb. 25. The found Turnage and another man, followed then down the alley and shot them.
The Walker shooting was described by a witness as being in retaliation for the murder of the older brother of one of Pitts’ fellow gang members.
Pitts was taken into custody at a federal prison in Kentucky, where he was serving a 7-year sentence for unlawful use of a weapon.
