Voting for the 49th Ward’s 10th year of Participatory Budgeting is underway until Nov. 16. The Participatory Budgeting process allows ward residents to vote on a portion of the City’s spending for the ward.
Residents aged 14 and over can cast their votes at the 49th Ward website, at the ward office (1447 W. Morse) during business hours or at one of several early voting events leading up to the final vote on Nov. 16.
The remaining early voting events and locations are:
- 8:30 am – 10:30 am on Sunday,November 10 at St.Jerome’s Cathloic Church (1709 W.Lunt)
- 3pm -6pm on Tuesday,November 12 at the Morse L Station
- 10am -3pm on Friday,November 15 at the Rogers Park Branch Library (6907 N, Clark)
This year’s voting process is slightly different than previous years. Due to a shortened timeline, residents are voting on previous years’ runner-up projects instead of a new selection. According the ward’s website, residents will vote on these projects and budgets:
- Street resurfacing, alley resurfacing, sidewalk repairs and curb repairs throughout ward: 0-100 percent of $1 million
- Murals at Sullivan High School: $50,000
- Water Spray Feature at Langdon Park: $250,000
- New Planting Beds and Fencing at Dubkin Park: $15,000
- Expansion of Outdoor Exercise Equipment at Loyola Park: $100,000
The final vote takes place Saturday, November 16 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Chicago Math and Science Academy (7212 N.Clark).
