Monday’s build-a-burger night is a big hit at R Public House, a Rogers Park pub and eatery known for its wood-fired oven and rotating selection of craft beers. Now a politically-themed T-shirt is adding to the fun.
Manager Jenni Smith said owner Renee Labrana had the shirts made during the recent shutdown of the federal government. The simple text — “BUILD BURGERS NOT WALLS” — pokes fun at President Trump’s efforts to secure Congressional funding for his wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
“We’re almost sold out of them,” Smith said. “They’ve been going pretty fast.”
R Public House, 1508 W. Jarvis Ave., just off the Jarvis CTA Red Line stop, hosts the build-a-burger night every Monday. Patrons get a “naked burger” for $5 and can dress it however they want, with some items costing extra.
Other specials include Fried Chicken on Tuesdays, build-your-own mac and cheese on Wednesdays, Ladies Night on Thursdays and Fish ‘n Chips on Friday.
