There will be championship soccer in Edgewater today.

The Loyola Women’s Soccer team clinched a spot in the title game with a 2-1 over Illinois State Friday evening, in a hard fought game. They’ll play Drake for the title at Hoyne Park, near Hoyne and Devon, Sunday at 1 p.m.

Loyola got an early start Friday, with a goal by Madison Kimball six minutes into the game.

Eight minutes later, Jenna Szczesny added a second goal with a header-turned-free-kick to further the lead. Loyola kept its energy strong, capitalizing off missed corner kicks.

“The target’s been on our back all year,” Loyola Coach Barry Bimbi said. “The girls keep rising to the challenge so it’s an exciting moment for the coaches, but also for the players because they are hungry for it.”
