A man was fatally shot Wednesday night in the West Rogers Park.
Police say the 19-year-old man, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner as Kyle Newman, was standing outside in the 2400 block of W. Jarvis at about 11:13 p.m. when people he did not know walked up to him and opened fire.
He suffered gunshot wounds to the ear and cheek, and was taken in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital, where he later died, according to a Chicago police spokesperson.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office did not immediately confirm his death, according to Chicago Sun Times.
Some neighbors interviewed Thursday said they heard gunshots, but were not aware of what happened until they saw police activity. One neighbor, who asked that his name not be used, said the courtyard of the building is known as a place where young people “hang out” in the evening.
Area North detectives were investigating. As of now no one has been put into custody.
