Loyola University Chicago and ComEd were working Tuesday morning to restore power following a massive power outage at the school’s Lake Shore Campus in Rogers Park.
Loyola said the outage was caused by a transformer problem that resulted in a power loss to many buildings on the campus.
ComEd was working to restore power on a rolling basis.

Loyola Community,
A widespread power outage occurred at the Lake Shore Campus just shortly after 8:50 a.m. today. The cause is a blown bus tie in one of the main ComEd electrical transformers that provides service to many Loyola buildings. Two primary electrical feeds to the campus–8440 and 8447–went down, causing outages to many buildings. Campus Safety and Facilities personnel are checking each building, concentrating on locating anyone who may be an occupant in a stopped elevator.
Impacted buildings include the following:
Cudahy Science Hall, Cuneo Hall, Damen Student Center, Halas Recreation Center, Madonna della Strada Chapel, Mundelein Center, Granada Center, Le Moyne Hall, Regis Hall, Fordham Hall, and Fairfield Hall.
ComEd crews are on site and working diligently to restore the campus to normal operations as quickly as possible. Buildings will be restored on a rolling basis, with the goal of having all buildings restored within three hours. We will update the community as we receive more pertinent information from ComEd.
