May 19 @ 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

Loyola Dune CleanUp Volunteering – Since 2003, part of the Rogers Park, Chicago lakefront has been protected from mechanical beach cleaning by large machines.  This has allowed the gradual restoration of a native wilderness area in the city.  The dunes have slowly reformed and are now about six feet above the surrounding manicured beach.  One by one, native plant species are returning and we are protected against being choked out by aggressive weed species until they are strong enough to survive on their own. Volunteering at the dunes involves removing invasive species.  You could also plant any plants that we have, remove trash, or any other project (such as your own!) that you envision.2018 Dune clean-up volunteering will take place every 3rd Saturday of the month from 9:30am-12:30pm and will meet at the entrance to the dune habitat at the west end of the pier, just north and east of Pratt Ave.
