The Edgewater area is planning for two new high-profile art projects.
These two new public art pieces will join a list of several that have been introduced throughout the community over the last year.
According to Edgeville Buzz, the first project, a mural, will be painted on the side of the building at 1346 W Devon Ave.
The Edgewater Chamber of Commerce is overseeing the project.
Artists based in the Chicagoland area can submission their visions by March 30. The artists will be selected by April 16. The piece will be completed by September 2018.
A private developer is commissioning the second piece. It will be located on the east-facing wall 1127 W. Granville. The is the Chicago Mosaic School’s new building. The project will be three compatible images hanging vinyl banners. The artists will be chosen on March 23 and receive stipends.
Both locations were chosen due to their visibility and accessibility. The commissioned pieces plan to increase Edgewater’s creative reputation. “Our goal is to do a new mural every year so there is public art in each of Edgewater’s business districts,” said Edgewater Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Katrina Balog.
